2010 Macbook Air failing startup

Hi Experts,

I hope you can help me today.

I have a late 2010 macbook air and when I tried booting it up I got a circle with a line through it. I have tried to get it into recovery mode but that didn't work . I just got back to the circle with a line through it again, same with internet recovery.

Thank you!

Please read If your Mac starts up to a circle with a line through it - Apple Support.

I understand you tried Recovery mode, but it didn't work, not even Internet Recovery. You can manually invoke the latter by holding ⌥ ⌘ R (option command R) with three fingers while starting the Mac with a fourth finger, but Recovery mode should have attempted that on its own. Exhaust all those options anyway.

It is possible Internet Recovery could be slow or challenging to use at the moment, since there have been many anecdotal reports about difficulties reaching Apple's servers over the past week or so.

If you exhaust all options it leaves only Step 5:

"If you still need help, please contact Apple Support."

According to Computers that can be upgraded to use OS X Internet Recovery - Apple Support, your model MacBook Air should be able to use it: MacBook Air (11-inch and 13-inch, Late 2010) is on the list.

It's a moot point though if you can't get it to work. Just be sure you're doing it right: start with it powered down, hold those three keys, and keep holding them as you power it on. Don't release those keys until you get the "spinning globe" icon.

If you never get the "spinning globe" I wouldn't know what to do, other than to connect an external hard disk drive or other device with a bootable system on it. Might that be an option for you?
