USB Connnection

Can someone help me into resolving thiss issue i plugged in my USB Western Digital drive to do my backups. How can I tell if the USB are working on not cause right now I plugged in all 3 port and drive is not working on any of them.? Is the something i can enter into the Go to finder and type in some thing to see wjhy its not working it was working yesterday? Myabe in system prefrence is there some there i CAN LOOK INTO?

To all I fixed it I had to restrt my iMac?
