iphone xr camera quality

Hey guys! i used to have an iPhone 8 I had smashed the hope button and the back of it, my mum got a upgrade to the iPhone 12 and she offered me her XR. Of course I said yes.

The camera quality is awful my iPhone 8 actually had better quality. It makes my skin look awfully smooth and not in a good way I know that isn’t how I look and it is really beginning to annoy me ive tired the HDR off to see if that would help and it didn’t can anyone help me?
