The serial number isn't useful either. At this point you should take steps to secure the information that Mac may have on it, which essentially comes down to changing passwords for things like your bank accounts, etc.

That Apple Support document describes what you need to do, under "If you can't find your Mac or didn't set up Find My."

Not by using "Find My", no, but follow all the steps in If your Mac is lost or stolen - Apple Support.
