Textmessages sent and received in blue indicate, that they were sent successfully via iMessage.

If your sent message turned from blue to green, iMessage service might not have been available, and the message was sent via your mobile SMS service.

If you don't want to send your messages as SMS, disable the option "Send as SMS, if iMessages is not available" in the settings for messages.
