iPad Pro Magic Keyboard

My new iPad Pro magic keyboard has punctuation keys mixed up. I've checked to make sure I have the correct language selected - US English but still is not working correctly. For example this is what I get when I try to get a question mark _. What am I doing wrong?

Hi there Iowagal51,

We understand you're seeing different punctuation marks than expected when typing on your Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro.

To confirm, is your Magic Keyboard language in English, and your iPad Pro is also set to English?

Do you see the same issue when using the onscreen keyboard?

Thanks!

You have the wrong keyboard mapping selected. The "language" settings are irrelevant. Go to settings > general > keyboard > hardware keyboard and tap over at the right edge. Make sure you have "US" checked and NOT "automatic" or something else.

Your example indicates you probably have Spanish active as a mapping instead of US.

That was the first thing I checked and it is correct. US not Spanish so that doesn't seem to be the problem.

Do you have only one item on your list in settings > general > keyboard > keyboards? And the name of that item is English?

If hardware keyboards has US checked for every keyboard, shift bottom rightmost key has to produce ?

Thanks much for the picture, it solves the mystery!

I thought you had a US keyboard. But you don't, you have a Latin American Spanish keyboard. If you want what you type to match what is printed on the keys, then you should have "Latin American" checked when you tap over at the right edge of the Hardware Keyboard settings (and not US or Automatic or Spanish).

In case you have a problem finding @, it is on Option Q with the Latin American layout.
