Print page numbers in Apple Numbers (the spreadsheet)

The doc SAYS that page numbers print automatically, but they don't. I have gone to the Print and Page Size sidebar and hacked around with the Page Numbers section. Tried checking the "continue from previous sheet" radio button. Tried changing the starting number. Tried changing the starting number and returning it to "1".

Very frustrating because you have to print the page to test. Many wasted pages.

Nothing works.

What I REALLY want is to put automatic text in the format "Page x of y" in a footer. Easily done in Excel.

Any way to do that?

Just getting page numbers to print in any way at all would be acceptable.

TIA.

Have you tried this?

In the footer (or header) you can type "Page" <then insert Page Number as shown> followed by " of " <then insert Page Count > follow

If you don't want to waste paper note that you can hit the Print ... button then choose Open in Preview from the dropdown at the PDF button.

You can do this in other MacOS apps as well.
