Hi, i've had my iphone 3g for almost two years now and starting last night, it won't charge. I plugged it in to charge for 4 hours today and when I went to leave, I unplugged it and said it had low battery. I noticed that when I plug it in like normal it says that it's charging but actually isn't? It's stuck on 20% and won't charge or die. I've looked through previous forums and nobody has had this problem like this. Please help?
Sounds like a hardware problem which may be the battery only or with something else. You can make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one nearby to determine where the problem lies.
Thank you. I'm afraid that they'll say that it has something to do with what I did because the screen is cracked really badly, but it has been nine months since that has happened and worked completely fine until now.
I had the same problem. I went to the Apple store and they wanted to charge me for a new phone (since you can't replace the battery). But then she tried blowing out dust from the area where the charger plugs in. After a reboot, it started charging again just fine.
If the problem is with the battery only and the iPhone is out of warranty, Apple will replace the battery only. Apple has a battery only replacement for an iPhone no longer under warranty. Apple may not do this with an iPhone that has a cracked screen since the screen must be removed to replace the battery.
You have a couple of choices. As it is out of warranty and you are somewhat near NYC there are several reputable shops that will repair your phone and check (and replace) the battery. Probably for less than Apple will charge. But you must also be eligible for a new phone, so that is what I would suggest. It will cost about the same and you will have a new phone with a new warranty.
I have a similar problem. I have an Imac which is not charging my phone 3gs or and itouch. If I plug the cord and phone onto another computer they work fine so the problem is with the computer any suggestions on what I can do to reset my computer? It will sync up fine but will not charge.
