My Apple ID works on most everything (log ins etc.) but is rejected by the App Store, can't verify. when I go in to change pw it brings up a disused Apple Id which I no longer have the pw for. All my apps need updating but I can't update them.

The apps are tied to the Apple ID they were originally download with. If you no longer have access to that Apple ID you need to delete the apps, restart the phone, then re-get the apps with your current Apple ID.
