Touch ID not working with external monitor

I have a MacBook Air and the touch ID works perfectly fine. When I recently bought an adapter so I can use an external monitor, the Touch ID no longer works. As soon as I unplug the external monitor, the Touch ID works again. Any fix to this?

Restart your Mac:

Having just configured this, start with a restart. Perhaps the settings all need to coincide.

Resolution and Wattage are the Culprit:

If this is not operating when connected, then the resolution is not made to operate with your Mac, nor the macOS. If it is not 4K, and the wattage is just not right on, it may or may not work, depending on the video card. So, visit the manufacturer's site, looking for the User Manual, and view its compatibility. As an example of a monitor not working with a Mac, see my user tip (it has a fix: an adapter). My User Tip: Configuring a USB-C Only Mac with a 30-Inch Apple Cinema Display - User Tip
