bluetooth speaker connection while macbook lid is closed

So I have this problem, my speakers and airpods keep on connecting to my macbook while it's lid is closed. I can't connect to some of the devices until I open my mac and manually disconnect. There is no parameters in the system that I could tweak to fix that problem. All I could find is some sketchy github scripts that turn of your bluetooth completely when the lid closes which I don't want to put on my computer.

Is there some kind of public issue tracker where I can create a ticket for adding this feature?

Hi there count_0,

We certainly want to help keep your Bluetooth devices from pairing with your Mac, especially since the lid is closed.

We've also tested it on our own MacBook Pro/iPhone/AirPods, and can say this isn't expected behavior.

That being said, we wanted to start by ruling out some basics:

  1. At the time this occurs, are your Bluetooth devices not being used at all?
  2. Do other devices that have been paired with your Mac(besides the speaker and AirPods) have the same issue?
  3. What occurs when you manually try to pair another device with your Bluetooth accessories when they pair with your Mac while the lid is closed? The more details you provide, the better equipped we'll be to assist.
  4. You can verify this by clicking on the Apple logo at the top left corner of the screen, then on ‘About This Mac’. Here's how to first Back up your Mac with Time Machine, and afterwards, here's How to update the software on your Mac.

Cheers!

Hello count_0,

From the new details you provided, this sounds like expected behavior seeing as you were using your Mac with your car's Bluetooth stereo first, then you want to use it with another device afterwards. You can provide feedback to Apple using this link: Product Feedback We also recommend providing feedback about any options you'd like to see.

As the details you provided does make it seem as if this is expected behavior, we wanted to confirm a few things:

  1. When you open the lid again, was it sleeping, or does it open right to the desktop?
  2. Are your preferences configured to have your Mac go to sleep when closing the lid, or is it set to something else?
  3. As you have macOS Monterey installed, the latest version is macOS Monterey 12.2. You can verify this by clicking on the Apple logo at the top left corner of the screen, then on ‘About This Mac’. Here's how to first Back up your Mac with Time Machine, and afterwards, here's How to update the software on your Mac.

Take care!

From what I understand, this is considered as a feature, for a faster access to bluetooth devices like mouse and keyboard after the lid is open.

The AirPods are not the biggest issue for me, the real problem happens when I have my laptop in my car, my bluetooth system requires a device to disconnect from previous device first to connect another one. I would have to stop the car, get my laptop, open it, disconnect the current connection with the car audio and then connect another device.

Im using OSX Monterey, and there is no option to disable "wake up by bluetooth device" anymore.

Quick online search proves that, since there are multiple people reporting this issue.

What I want is to be able to have an option whether a device is allowed to wake up the laptop or not.

Thank you.
