Red dot above message icon

When I recently updated my iPhone XR. I noticed I’m no longer getting a red dot to show I have a message, I went to settings>notifications>messages and made sure the badges button was turned on. I’m still not getting the red dot. If I’m not near my phone to hear it when I get a message, I don’t see that I have one now without the red dot. Help!

iPhone XR, iOS 15

Hey patlambert107,

It sounds like you're having an issue with notifications for Messages on your iPhone. We can understand wanting to look into that further. We want to help.

First, we'd recommend checking to see if you have any Focus settings that could be preventing notifications: Use Focus on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

We'd also suggest checking to see if Hide Alerts are enabled for any conversations in Messages: Use Messages on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

"Turn on Hide alerts

  1. Open Messages.
  2. Swipe left over the conversation that you want to mute.
  3. Tap the Alerts button .

When Hide Alerts is on, the Alerts button  appears next to the conversation. This stops notifications only for that conversation, not your device. You’ll still receive all other messages and see notifications for them on your Lock screen."

Thanks!
