Spotlight Not Index a New External Hard Drive

Is there a way to just have Spotlight NOT try to index a new drive?

Spotlight How can I check that spotlight is indexing my data of my external hard drive? I can see my files when I open the drive, but when I search for files I cannot find them. What about tags? I transferred my files from another drive, but I cannot find them with tags. Is it the problem of spotlight too?

Spotlight Not Searching External Drives I am no longer able to search Google Drive for files I need since updating to macOS Monterey. Re-indexing not working by adding the Drive to System Pref => Spotlight ==> Privacy and removing it as per the online instructions. How can this be turned back on? As I have to use Drive as part of my business agreements for file storage.

Spotlight must re-index Occasionally when you delete files from external drive, spotlight does not update to reflect the changes.. eg.. I did a spotlight search today for all files related to *.xml, but when they show up in search, right click and "open containing folder", the file in the directory is not there.. Once I reindexed drive (deleting hidden .spotlight folder), it was ok.. Why is this constantly needed ? Spotlight should be updating to reflect changes.. "on-the-fly"
