I need to get text messages from a person I was texting on my phone

It sounds like you are trying to say you deleted those messages and now you want them back.
If you were NOT using messages in iCloud, restore the phone from a backup made when they were still present.
If you don't have a backup containing them or you were syncing messages with iCloud, they're gone. There is no way to get them back.
