Using Siri For Shopping Lists?

I used to be able to use Siri to add stuff to a shopping list note. But I guess Siri no longer works for notes.

Instead, I read that I’m supposed to create a list in Reminders. I can create a shopping list in reminders, and Siri will add stuff to it. However, if I create a second shopping list, Siri will only add stuff to the first list, even if I tell it to add to the second.

For example, I create Grocery List. Then I create household list.

if I say, “hey Siri, add cheese to the grocery list,” it does.

But, if I say, “hey Siri, add toilet paper to the household list,” it adds toilet paper to the grocery list.

what am I doing wrong?

Hello Moosbrugger,

It sounds like you use "Hey Siri" for creating lists and sometimes things cannot be added to a specific list. We'll be glad to assist.

While this is not possible with Notes, you can do this with Reminders: Use Reminders on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Add a reminder with Siri

You can ask Siri to schedule a reminder for you on your iOS device or your Apple Watch.* Here are a few examples:

  • "Remind me to feed the dog every day at 7:30 a.m."
  • "Remind me when I get home to check the mail."
  • "Remind me when I leave here to stop by the grocery store."
  • "Remind me tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. to call Tara."

Add your home and work addresses to your card in Contacts to allow Siri to help you set location-based reminders. Open the Contacts app, then tap My Card. Tap Edit, add your work or home address, then tap Done.”

If you create a new list and ask Siri to add an item to the new list, does that work? If so, try using that list instead of the other list to add items to it.

Take care.
