What happened to my iMac 27 ? Here is the startup screen.
After a while ... never completing startup.
Tried install High Sierra from Apple but same result, never ending install.
Any idea ? Hardware issue ? Can it be repaired ?

Can only venture a guess but it looks like the gpu has failed, it is after all 13 years old. Will it start in safe mode? How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support
+1 I have to agree, a GPU failure. Time to retire the old girl.
I googled about this failure and found that this one is well known and occurs very often.
Some people created even videos on how to proceed ...
Maybe I'll try. Should I not succeed, then I'll give up and won't replace it.
I am aware of those fixes such as oven cooking the main logic board however they are 100% hacks and when they work it's simply a temporary fix to a long term problem.
