Sharing music and movie libraries ...

My wife and I, both have personal iCloud account. These accounts are tied to our Calendar, Contacts, Mail, Keychain and other personal Apple datas.

For our music and movies we share the same libraries. We are now using Spotify and Netflix. We, both, are able to access the same library without requiring to tie our mobile devices or computers to a specific iCloud account.

We are looking into moving to Music and TV+. Is there a way to share the same music and movie library without my wife having to disconnect from her personal iCloud account and to login mine where the music and movie libraries are ?

Robert,

To make sure we answer your question. "BUT will not be able to have access to any other's personal app and libraries. Am I correct ?" Yes, your data stays with you. The other person will set up their Apple apps as they like with their data and can include anything that is being shared from the purchase history from other family members as long as purchase sharing is enabled.

Cheers!

Hello, Robert Lesperance!

Thanks for reaching out in Apple Support Communities! If we understand correctly, both you and your wife have separate Apple IDs and are looking to share your Music and Apple TV+. You want to make sure you don't have to log into each others account. You've also been using this guide: Use Home Sharing to share media from a computer to other devices.

Have you considered using Family Sharing? Here's a little more about this feature: What is Family Sharing? This way you don't need to leave either the app or sign out of your specific Apple ID.

If after reviewing the guide and you find it's a good fit for you, use this guide: Set up Family Sharing. It shows you what you'll need to get this set up and you can decide which one of you will be the family organizer.

Take care!

Robert,

Thanks for responding back and asking a great question! You're right, each person does manage their own account and information, they will have their own Apple apps and iCloud Storage can be shared. They will be able to share their purchases within the app. Here's some examples of how to view the purchases: How to download apps and content that your family members purchased.

If this makes the decision a bit easier, here's a great guide to help you understand what cannot be shared: What types of content can I share with my family?

Does this help answer your question?

Kind regards.

Robert,

As a suggestion, we'd suggest contacting Contact Apple Support to talk through what you'd like to do. They'll help guide you to understand which option works best for you with either Family Sharing or Home Sharing. Both allow you to share libraries but the features are a little different. This would help you decide which works best for you and your wife.

All the best!

Hello Community Specialist,

For what I understand, family sharing will allow each member to have their specific Apple app setup. Every member of the family will have their own Apple apps (Music, TV+, iCloud Drive, Calendar, Mail, etc ...) and preferences and each will be able to manage their account and use the global iCloud Drive storage ...BUT will not be able to have access to any other's personal app and libraries. Am I correct ?

My goal is to allow each to have their own iCloud account but to be able to share their Music and TV+ libraries.

I am really sorry to ear that. I was hoping that there was a way to share the same music and film library. My wife and I only have one of those libraries and still want to have our personal data (Contacts, Calendar, Mail, Plans, Keychain, etc ...).

Were are obviously not alone. I think you should add that to the feedback lis. This is, in my opinion, a feature that applies to many of us. I would love to stick to only Apple apps. Is has great advantages. But, at some point, sharing music and film libraries are one that we cannot live without.

Sorry to say that I will be sticking to Spotify and Netflix for that only reason. Thanks for listening.
