Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter; USB-C port in the adapter won't charge devices

Hello:

The USB-C port in my adapters, which I plug into both USB-C ports of my MacBook Air, will charge my computer, but no other device (magic mouse, keyboard, ear buds, apple watch). The USB and HDMI ports charge/power other devices with no problem. Is this a hardware problem or is that by design?

Thanks.

Hello, Malcka!

Welcome to Apple Support Communities! From your post, it sounds like you have a question on how the ports work with your MacBook Air.

We'd like you to check this out: Identify the ports on your Mac. You're right, using a USB-C will charge your MacBook and even your iPhone. If you have a device that is not either connecting or charging, then you might need an adapter. If the cable is not charging as expected, we'd also suggest that you try a different cable to narrow down whether it's the cable or the port itself.

Kind regards.
