iOS 15 and Private Relay

When will iOS update be fixed to allow users to opt out of Private Relay?

Since my iPad was updated with iOS 15, the only option available with iCloud Private relay is Upgrade to iCloud+, with a monthly subscription, which I do not want or need. I cannot turn it off. Since that “update” Safari fails to load websites, and the recommended “fix” of resetting network connections, rebooting and re-entering my network password only seems to help temporarily. This updated iOS security measure is not working for me and Apple should give users the choice to opt out.

Hello cbktznbch,

Thanks for reaching out to us in Apple Support Communities about issues accessing websites. We're happy to help by looking into this more!

iCloud Private Relay is a service available to you if you have an iCloud+ subscription. If you don't have a subscription to iCloud+ you do not have iCloud private relay enabled. The following support article provides some more information about how the service works:

About iCloud Private Relay - Apple Support

This tells us something else is causing you to not be able to access these sites. To help isolate this issue, do you have issues accessing these sites while on Wi-Fi as well as cellular data? Do you have any profiles installed on your device? This is typically not an issue unless your iPhone was issued to you from your work or school. Do you have a VPN or other 3rd party security software installed on your iPhone? Do you have Screen Time or any other restrictions enabled on your device?

Hope this helps.

Best Regards.

cbktznbch,

Thanks for getting back to us. What leads you to believe the issues you're experiencing are specifically caused by iCloud Private Relay?

Did you try any of the suggestions provided in the previous post? If so, what were the results for each step?

As explained the article provided previously, iCloud Private Relay (the service is still in beta across the board) is a service offered only as part of a paid subscription to iCloud+. If you do not have an iCloud subscription this is not a service you would receive for free. Everyone who doesn't have a paid subscription will receive the offer to purchase iCloud+ in order to have iCloud Private Relay.

To have the option greyed out, is expected as you wouldn't have the option to enable the service unless you have the subscription.

Hope this helps.

Best Regards.
