Why, what happens when you turn shuffle on?

Assuming that the 7th generation iPod Touch is the same as my 6th gen model, Shuffle is not available on the Artists, Genre or Playlist top menus, but once in a genre, or a Playlist or an Artist, you will see a Shuffle button.

In menus where the option is present, for example the songs menu, there are two ways to turn on Shuffle:

    1. tap the Shuffle button at the top of the songs list
    2. drag up the Now Playing screen and tap the Shuffle button that will then be visible

Something to note: if you have synchronised your music from an iTunes Library, there is an option in iTunes to prevent songs from playing in shuffle mode, which will copy over to the song on your iPod Touch. Each song can be set to Skip When Shuffling (edit the song's info by selecting it and clicking on Edit/Song Info/Options>Skip when shuffling). If there is a tick in the box (a check mark) then the option is on. Click the box to turn it off and then Sync your iPod with iTunes for the change to take effect on the iPod.

You can bulk check songs for this:

select the songs and click Edit/Get Info - and then click Edit Items in response to the question that pops up. Then select the Options tab and again, turn off the tick in the Skip when shuffling box. Note that if there is a dash mark in the box, that indicates that some of your selection is set differently to the rest. Keep clicking in the box until it is empty (skip when shuffling is off) or has a tick, in which case skip when shuffling is on.

If these tips have not yet solved your problem, post back with more detail about what steps you're taking, what you expect to happen and what does happen.
