New iMac and now System Preferences says is is still signing into Apple ID and can't shut down.

I have System Preferences permanently open and cannot shut the computer down, as it says:

System Preferences is busy and can’t be closed.

Signing in to Apple ID...

I've only just got it set up... and never had trouble with my old one.

Help, please?

Hello Vik_tom,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

We understand that your System Preferences open and are unable to shut down the computer because "System Preferences is busy and can't be closed." We would recommend taking a look at the following support article on force quitting an app on your Mac.
