Macbook Air M1 - Inconsistent connection with Dell D6000 docking station

Once I get everything working the D6000 works flawlessly but it takes at least 2-3 retries before everything is operational after disconnecting. The connector is a single USB-C to charge and connect to all devices attached to the D6000 and the Mac.

So I'm spending my time between my office and home for work at present. The D6000 is used in my home setup. Connected to it I have a Logitech webcam, Mouse, Headset, Disk (for time machine) and an HDMI monitor.

When I've been in the office I return home and hook up to the D6000. The first time usually it powers my Mac but likely nothing activates and the monitor is ignored. The second time of connecting usually the monitor kicks in but often not all the USB devices are recognized. The third time normally sees all devices active.

If I shutdown/restart the Mac everything works first time. If I simply shut the lid at work and open when I get home then it's probably 3 times to get everything working.

I've upgraded the Dell unit to the latest firmware. I had a 2015 MacBook Air previously that connected through it flawlessly but that didn't include the monitor. I've also had a couple of Windows laptops that I've used with the monitor and had no problems. Google finds a few Mac M1 users that have had similar experiences but no solutions yet.

Can anyone help?

Dell docking stations are designed and tested with Windows PCs. Operation with any Mac will be hit and miss. And a call to Dell for support will generally get a "Oh you're using with a Mac" response and more often than not will be followed by a "We don't support Macs".

Best results would be to purchase a docking station mentioned in the previous post.

Personally, I have the new OWC Thunderbolt4 docking which is performing flawlessly with a 4K display connected to it, 4 SSDs, and occasionally connecting additional USB devices (syncing iPhone, download images from my DLSR, etc.).
