iCloud e-mail
Hi,
I am considering dumping my gmail in favor of iCloud e-mail using a custom domain through iCloud+. My question is, will I be able to change my apple id to this new e-mail address?
Thanks

Hello Saltie Dawg,
Thanks for choosing the Apple Support Communities. If we understand correctly, you want to know fi you can use an iCloud email as your primary Apple ID.
This isn't currently possible. You would need another email address to serve as your Apple ID in case you get locked out of your Apple ID, and subsequently, your iCloud Mail as well. Having said that, you can set up an email alias.
Add and manage email aliases for iCloud Mail on iCloud.com - Apple Support
Cheers!
Hello Karina184,
Thanks for your reply.
I planned to deactivate my current @gmail.com address which is my apple id after creating an @icloud.com address. I read some confusing info which prompted my query which included the below statement from apple after a search "changing apple id."
I just got off a support call from Jennifer at apple support and she indicated the same info you supplied but when I brought this statement up, she put me on hold to check. She came back and stated that if after creating an @icloud.com address and only using it for e-mail for 30 days (not logging in, purchases, anything apple, etc.), you will be able to do it.
Sorry for the contrary reply but she seemed thankful for the info she was unaware of.
Please share your thoughts.
Thanks
Update:
I created an @icloud e-mail address, left it alone for 31 days (at 30 days it didn't work), went to the Apple ID site and changed my Apple ID from the @gmail address I had been using to the new @icloud address and POOF, it was changed instantly.
