Camera in use

Many times I pick up my phone when it is locked and it shows the green light indicating the camera is in use. I unlock and look to see what is using it and it says camera recently. It stops using it as soon as I unlock the phone. The camera app is not even open at the time. Why is this happening and how do I stop it?

When you pick it up and look at it, it uses the camera for FaceID to identify you and unlock the iPhone.

That's what's using the camera. Otherwise FaceId would no work.
