Are there any apps you can still use the app store to download on os x 10.6.8 as all of the apps I tried to download do not work as they require a newer OS. I don't own any apps on the mac so I can't download past apps. My macbook is a white early 2006 model with 32bit cpu.
There aren't that many. A few web browsers which are Snow Leopard compatible that are newer than Safari for 10.6 are available:

One thing Snow Leopard does support which later operating systems do not is AppleWorks. You may be able to find a full copy of Appleworks for Snow Leopard on places like eBay
Many older PowerPC based programs that are for Mac OS X run in Snow Leopard, but not newer systems.
