I have a very old MacBook (2011) which is on it’s way out and want to back up some old photos to a flash drive. What flash drive would be compatible and best to use? I presume I can’t use a USB3.0 but what would work?

USB3.0 is downward compatible. You can use USB3.0 flash memory in USB2.0 ports.

Try it:
It may or may not work. Plug it in and see if it works. If so, then you are good from there. If not, then get a USB 2.0 model.
