Air Tags use to track if item stolen

I bought 4 Air Tags when they were first announced. The purpose I wanted them for was to track my car keys and 3 vehicles incase they are stolen (Mine, My Wifes and another SORN vehicle used on a farm) ... the anti stalking measures now applied to Air Tags now means that if they are stolen and the thief has an iPhone or Android Phone, they will be alerted that they are being tracked..... Genius! Not!

They may have been able to do it, but they were not meant to be.

If Apple had advertised with a "find the thief" feature, and afterwards removed the feature, then it would have been understandable that you feel disappointed, but that is not the case. It's like wanting money back for an iPhone because it can not be jailbroken.

I hope you find something else sensible to use your AirTags for.

The Anti Stalker feature is necessary as unfortunately someone is going to abuse AirTags features to follow people. AirTags are perfect for keys and bags - and generally the things you forget where you put them, as well as an easy way to get in touch with the owner of lost things.

AirTag is not made to catch and track down criminals.

If you need a hidden GPS device for your car, then there are many devices that are built for the purpose.
