WatchOS 8.4.2 battery drain

Just updated to latest watchOS last night on my series 6. Went to bed with 50% battery life. Woke up with 14%. Charged again to 50% and now in an hour watch is down to 47% and I haven’t used it for anything. This is not normal.

I don’t have cellular hooked up. And it’s always near my phone or good Wi-Fi signal. Something happened with this update. It was fine before the update.

I'm experiencing the complete opposite since 8.4.2 was released yesterday. I've had my watch on my wrist now over 2 hours and while I've not really done much on my watch, except read a couple text messages, I'm still at 100%. Prior to this newest update, I would have typically lost about 7%, which wasn't excessive to begin with, but I'm seeing better battery life thus far.

I would recommend unpairing the watch from your iPhone and setting it up again. That can often fix something which could have gone awry in an update.

After reading and trying all of these suggestions and speaking with apple tech for 45 minutes I decided to restore my iphone xsmax to factory settings and then update from the icloud. They had not recommended this.

This resulted in resetting my watch as well.

I had to restore all my apple pay cards and a few apps but now I am more than 24 hour battery life.

I charged my watch at 5 AM yesterday and it is now 7AM (26 hours later) and I have 51% charge left. Its also been at 51 % for the past 2 hours.

Its a hassle but I suggest you try it.

I've gone through 3 brand new S7 watches, each having horrible battery life. I've been troubleshooting this with Apple Support since OCTOBER.. Mine dies overnight in SLEEP MODE when nothing is on.. I've restored this thing along with my phone more times than any other Apple device I've ever owned combined. Never buying another one of these $800 paperweights.

Why wouldn't you just put your watch on its charger at night when you go to bed and leave it on its charger until you're ready to get going the next day? That is what the vast majority of Apple Watch users do (myself included) so they have a watch fully charged and ready for the day's use. The tiny battery in Apple Watch is specified at a maximum 18 hours charge powered on.

My watch lasts me all day. I usually have more than 60% charge left when I put it on its charger at night.

This is how I use mine. And it used to last all day and I would have 50% to 60% in the evening when I put it back on charge. Now, with nothing else changed except this update, I am down to 10% or less when I get home from work (about 10 hours from putting the watch on). Something in this last update is causing the battery to drain much faster. Nothing else changed.

I was successful doing the following. Apple watch 6 iphone xsmax.

I unpaired and set watch again. No change. I then restored my iphone to factory settings and linked it to my ipad to complete the set up.

After that the watch appeared to reset and then the problem was solved.

The user with the problems with the watch 7 said this did not work for him but he may have not done same steps I did or the problem is in the watch 7.

Yeah, I've tried that as a test as well. It doesn't matter if it is on its charger all night or not. Battery still plummets.

Also, sleep tracking is a feature they boast about, so why not use it? They say to make sure you have at least 30% battery before going to sleep. Absolutely NO reason why I wake up either dead or at around 15% left when I go to bed at 100%. That's why they developed fast charging for the S7. I charge it in the morning back to 100%, then I consistently lose around 15% an hour.

I should not have to go through 3 of these things to have a good experience, considering the price tag. Also wasting one of my AppleCare claims on this nonsense.

Question about this - Every time I've restored from a backup, Apple Cash says it's unavailable.. Every single time.. So that forces me to restore as a new watch, then Apple Cash works. Doesn't resolve my battery issue, but I found that Apple Cash thing interesting..

Also, I have a Stainless Steel watch.. Do you know why, on the iPhone, if I go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage, scroll down to Watch to remove the backup.. It says my backup is for an Aluminum Case, when I have a SS watch.. Could that cause issues that you are aware of?

I appreciate the feedback.. but I've unpaired my watch at least 30 times since October, no joke.. I've restored my phone too. Not that many times, though. I've done both with and without backups. I did even try once to have my phone set up as new, no additional apps installed, then pair my watch to it as a new watch, no backup.. Even that did not work. There was a span of 4 days over the last 4 months when I thought this was resolved, where my watch was getting phenomenal battery life, like at least 20 hours. I thought maybe it resolved itself. After that 4th day, it went back to garbage. That was back in January I think.
