I assume you’re talking about the Sonos Beam gen 2 with only one HDMI port.
I’m surprised Sonos removed the 2nd HDMI port from the prior-gen beam. It means that you need a newer TV with eARC to pass a Dolby Atmos stream from your ATV 4K to the beam/soundbar.
That wouldn’t work for me for two reasons… I bought a lower-end LG UHD/4K (2020 model) because I really liked it’s IPS screen and didn’t too look closely at its other features (since “Smart TV” features become obsolete quickly and come in external devices). Also, it was a killer deal on a display model at BestBuy. Anyway, the TV merely has ARC rather than eARC, whereas my Atmos-capable soundbar (Sony HT-Z9F) has two HDMI inputs and an eARC-compatible HDMI out to the TV. With my ATV4K connected to the Soundbar, I do enjoy all the Atmos content I find, and I’m satisfied with the mere HDR10-level picture that’s passed on the TV (sadly no HRD10+ or Dolby Vision on my cheap TV… good thing I can’t see what I’m missing :-).
Second reason I like a soundbar or AVR with HDMI inputs is that I’m a fan of wall-mounted TVs that can push flat against the wall or extend out and swivel… clean-looking cable management allows for just 1 HDMI 2.1 cable, a power cord and a COAX from the antenna for OTA broadcasts (just in case :-).
Sorry for hijacking this thread on a tangent… @Rockmanlinux, I see you’ve got the high-end LG G1, so I suspect you’ve got a Sonos Arc and the immersive accoutrements (also with only one HDMI input :-). If so, never mind about plugging the ATV4K directly into the Sonos :-).
Have you noticed if the problem is with Dolby Atmos content? This “Netflix Dolby Atmos problems with new Apple TV 4K” suggests it’s an Apple issue and that limiting audio output to Dolby 5.1 may be a workaround (or watch such programming using the webOS apps on your TV, sadly).
