Cant connect external microphone to macbook

I want to connect an external microphone (Rode videomic pro) to my macbook (I tried my 2015 15" and 2020 13" M1 models. Both running on Monterey 12.0.1). I bought an TRRS audio splitter, USB-C to AUX port, and an TRRS aux cable, but none of these will help my macbooks recognise the microphone. I tried it via the system preferences and Audio MIDI setup.

How do I fix this?

Hi Jeroen___

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities. We see you have a question about using an external microphone with your Mac, and we'd like to share some information.

This covers how to Connect a microphone to use with GarageBand on Mac, and the information should apply to other apps as well. The results would depend on whether your Mac supports audio input through the headphone port:

  • "Connect the microphone to your computer’s audio input port (if it has one), then choose Built-in Input as the track’s input source.

"

If this doesn't work for you, you may need to look into using a USB audio interface or a similar configuration.

We hope this helps. Take care.
