Need for option to disable “one more minute“ in screen time limits, kids are able to continue using apps that are limited, what’s the use of screen time limits if they can continuously use one more minute? should be able to turn that off in screen time settings

This doesn’t quite get to the solution.

Having set all the App and Time restrictions, a teenage child is still willing to use the “one more minute” option over and over again which makes the screen restrictions a mere inconvenience to them.

Parents need a way to fully disable the device during restricted screen time. I would prefer that the “ one more minute” option was fully disabled.

The app limits function is consistently temperamental and frequently does not work. I have tried so many things to fix this including following the many instructions posted to various threads, watched numerous YouTube videos, followed the instructions on the Apple website, installed the latest iOS software on my phone and that of my child’s. It is so irritating.

My settings have been like this for a long time and my child keeps doing the One More Minute thing, and all apps limits are set to "Block at the end." I mean, the apps do block at the end but he keeps doing one more minute for other things, I don't know what else to do. Meanwhile, my other 2 kids have Chromebooks, so easy to manage... not even fair how much Android kicked Apple's behind on the simplicity for parents to manage screen time for their children.

I agree this on-more-minute is a terrible feature. My daughter uses this.

Daughter also found that in recent versions of the OS the restarted phone has no limits (including communication contact restrictions that dont get the one-more-minute thing) for 30sec or so until it communicates to the screen time server! Deselecting ‘share across devices’ shortens this period but doesn’t remove it.

The only way to fix these holes is to remove the iPhone from the child and publicise and avoid buying further iPhone / iPad for kids. Commercial pressure is the only thing that works. Shame because it’s a good product otherwise and I’ve been using and enjoying apple stuff since 1986.

The one more minute bug makes screen time useless. My son reboots his phone and gets in. Yes I have bark and smart family limits too and it is all useless. This is an apple iPhone problem. I have watched over 20 tutorials to lock down the phone. I have changed the screen time code. No he can’t delete apps. Yes downtime is toggled when they run out of time. Yes photos and videos are restricted and so is Siri and notepad and anything that you can share or access through another app. It’s all blocked and scenting does not work.

Yes! Amen, all my kids phones live downstairs day or night for accountability on many levels. It did mean we had to buy them traditional alarm clocks, but so much better for them! If they sneak them, they lose them altogether unless there is a specific time I want/need them to have them. If during that time they still do something they shouldn’t, the length of the consequence resets. Trying to help them develop good habits and self control, but app limits can even be helpful for some of us adults at time with these addicting screens!

You sound like a great parent!

I agree that the app limits don't always seem to work the way they should, but one has to work with what one has.

My kids are using "one more minute" on all their apps over and over to get hours and hours of screentime every day. That's how persistent kids are (and how addictive screentime is for them). I'm sure my family is not alone in this struggle.. I'm so glad to hear that Android phone makers listened to parents and fixed this major hole in their screentime controls app!!! ....It's too bad that Apple doesn't care what parents want because I like Apple but not enough to overlook this one... I am shopping for Android phones now for my kiddos after realizing that Apple refuses to provide this easy fix. Kids need to study, get chores done and do other things and parents should be allowed to choose this. "Take the phone away" is not an option for teens. Anyone have a good recommendation for a teen-friendly Android for us? Heck maybe the whole family will switch, including Granny.
