itag -What is the point?

I have a quick question about the iTag?

I see in the news about the security issue surrounding the product potentially being used to track people etc.

However, for those of us that are only using them for law abiding activities, how are the new changes going to affect us?

For instance, I have hidden one on my bike in order to track it if it is stolen. So if the itag is going to let people know it’s there and that my item is being tracked, what is the point of having it? Or does Apple have a way of combating this?
