Plex on Apple TV 4K with Synology NAS

Ever since I’ve upgraded to the 4K Apple TV the Plex app works horribly. I get video lagging, buffering & error just saying my processor speed isn’t fast enough and sometimes even not all my videos show up on the Plex app.. I have a 64 bit five Bay Nas they were perfectly with the original Apple TV boxes until 4K and it would transcode any media file without issue prior to ATV 4K– I have both a AtV 4K 1st and 2nd generation unit. Same problem with both. I’ve given up on playing Plex through my Apple TV 4K and I’ve moved to an Amazon fire stick 4K max. While I don’t like the user interface Plex works perfectly with my Synology NAS. In trying to troubleshoot my Synology prior to buying the fire stick I thought that my NAS was the issue - now I realize it’s actually the Apple TV 4K version one and two that is. The Amazon fire stick is also $31 compared to the Apple TV cost

And works without a hiccup on any size video I’m trying to watch through Plex. While I really am in Apple aficionado I’ve given up on Plex and AppleTV 4. I even upgraded my Nas from dsm6.2 to 7. 22 and there’s no improvement with the Apple TV 4K. Anybody else seeing this and if so is anybody has anyone been able to resolve the issues with Synology NAS , Plex and the Apple TV 4K.

Thanks for your response. I have received no error messages or to requests to correct path or permissions. This issue Apple 4KTV 1st and 2nd Generation systems has been documented in other forums. What I have found is if I use my LG OLED internal Plex app or Amazon Fire Stick 4K Max there are no issues with playback - my preference is to stick with the Apple TV 4K. While the transcoding occurs in the Synology NAS – I have DS1618+ – there appears to be an issue with the Apple TV 4K Plex app in the first and second generation devices reported by other users. I did not have this problem prior to upgrading to Apple TV 4K. This issue occurs within my local network where my NAS is located. Users streaming outside my network are not seeing any issues with playback.

I've tried deleting the Plex app and data on the server and the Plex app on the Apple TV 4K. I saw a slight improvement but not enough. On the Apple TV 4K the error varies varies between it just stops but also sometimes I get a transcoding error message and it everything just stops dead. However, on Plex on a Amazon fire stick 4K it's sort of plows through the error - (w/o an error message) - and re-syncs after 2-3 seconds.


I guess it could be file corruption but also may be associated with the file format. e.g. mp4 vs mkv. But, this has never been an issue before.
