Time Machine backups

Will Time Machine backup applications as well as files? Will it do a mirror backup to get your Mac where it was before the hard drive went down?

Using a backup for time machine I have to get my Macbook pro sent in for repairs. Creating a back up to load into a used iMac someone gave me. Can I use it for the iMac and to restore my Macbook pro when it comes back to me.? Just now sure if when I do a restore from timeline if it takes the data out of my external harddrive or is just making copies of it and it stays on my external WD hardrive.

Access old Time Machine Backups? I have a late 2016 MacBook Pro that I want to delete, but I am wondering if I back it up to Time Machine, will I be able to access its old files? Even after I have deleted the Mac? And will I also be able to access the old files from a different Mac?

Yes. All apps and use files are backed up and can be restored. It doesn't backup the system as it can be reinstalled easily by booting into the Recovery volume.
