How to program 3rd party remote I’d like to program my direct tv remote to use Apple TV. How can I do that? I tried doing it through the Apple TV app but that didn’t work. Got hung up during the setup after the left arrow. When it asked me to press the down arrow I got a message that it was already in use.

You need to check with directtv or the mfr of the one you have. My third party DVR came with a user manual, it is not from a cable company though - no idea how to record from/through a cable box.
