Battery health concerns
I'm concerned with how quickly my battery health has declined within the last couple of weeks. Less than four weeks ago my battery health was right around 93-94% and now it's at 88%. I haven't changed any of my charging habits nor have I been using my Macbook Pro any differently than I usually do. I haven't changed any settings or downloaded any new software. The only thing that changed about my Macbook Pro is that I installed Monterey 12.2 and witnessed three nights in a row my battery discharging from 100% to 0% (I was waking up to a dead battery). This was before I realized it was an issue with the Monterey 12.2 update. However, in those three nights of completing discharging is when I noticed my battery health decline from 93-94% down to 88%. Did this Monterey 12.2 update harm my battery?
I took my laptop into an apple store and had it looked at by a genius and they ran their diagnostics and told me with confidence it's not a hardware issue and that my battery is fine. They concluded it was a software issue, likely related to the Monterey 12.2 update and suggested I backup my Macbook Pro and then wipe it clean and reinstall the MacOS and restore my Macbook Pro from my external drive. I did take the geniuses advice and did that ASAP, but the problem remained. That's when I did some digging around on the internet and found I wasn't the only Macbook user afflicted with this exact issue and that other Macbook users discovered it was an issue with the Monterey 12.2 update and something to do with Bluetooth not allowing Macbooks to sleep at night. Once I realized what the culprit was, I started shutting my laptop down at night.
This was later confirmed in Apples most recent MacOS update Monterey 12.2.1 where they acknowledged some Intel Macbook users were experiencing this exact issue.
Since then, I've received the update (12.2.1) that has fixed this issue with the battery dying over night and I've been leaving my Macbook in sleep mode without any battery drainage issues. I have a mid 2020 Macbook Pro 13 inch, 4 TBT ports, intel processor. Again, I'm just concerned that my Macbook Pro's battery was harmed and that my battery's health declining from 93-94% down to 88% in less than 4 weeks is abnormal. I understand that battery health above 80% is apples standard and they won't do anything until it falls below 80%. Was my battery health harmed by Apples Monterey 12.2 update?
