Messages in iCloud

I’ve run into a weird situation with my messages data in iCloud. For a while, I was trying to maintain low storage usage and saving old messages, but after a while I had to auto delete old conversations. When I did so, my phone storage usage dropped dramatically, now messages only takes up 2.9 GB. However, in iCloud storage messages still takes up 23.1 GB. (Additionally, when I click for more info, the top conversations only take up 1.34 GB)

Maybe I’m wrong, but this doesn’t seem right, is there any way to lower the “messages data” to the amount it should be taking up?

I don’t think it would help, but here’s screenshots to prove it: If this is normal, I apologize for disturbing, it just seems off to me.

Yes it is actually normal. You have 23GB in Messages in iCloud, and 1GB local on your iPhone.

Messages in iCloud update when your iPhone is connected to the charger and WiFi, so at some point you will find that the 23GB is greatly reduced.

But yes, that's normal. iCloud just hasn't updated yet.

To speed up the process, try this:

1) Connect your iPhone to a charger and WiFi

2) Close all apps

3) Go to Settings -> Apple ID (Your Name) -> iCloud -> then deactivate Messages

4) Turn off your phone, wait a minute and turn it on again

5) Go back to Settings -> Apple ID (Your Name) -> iCloud and enable Messages

6) Open the Messages app and wait for it to start syncing with iCloud.

It has worked for me sometimes. But if it does not, then it happens automatically at some point no matter what.
