    problem is not with iphone but with aol. they're having problems (can't even open aol.com since yesterday). hopefully it will get fixed soon and things will go back to normal.

    I spoke with a very nice lady at apple and she confirmed that it is in fact an issue with AOL, they have a server that's down and it's affecting the people along that server, so if you have been affected like I have, LUCKY YOU and go play lotto

    They do not know when it will be fixed but they are aware of the issue and are working in it!
    Hope this helps everyone and the only thing left to do is periodically try to set up the email account to see if the problem has finally been fixed.

    I also contacted AOL. They said they are having problems, did not know when it will be fixed

    thank you for all this information. I have done everything I know how to this AOL and Iphone. Same message cannot send or receive mail. May not be correct password or email address.

    I have this problem on both my iPhone and in Outlook 2003. I can only get into my aol account via aol.com.

    I STILL have not been able to set up my AOL account on my iPhone 3GS. (since 8/7 when I cahnged my AOL pw through AOL itself).

    I STILL get the 'impa.aol.com' username or password is incorrect.

    Can anyone please post here the step-by-step instructions to get AOL email on my iPhone!

    I have been having this problem since April, when I first got my iPod Touch. My e-mail worked for maybe a week on my device and never again. Are all AOL users just out of luck? Has anyone found a fix yet?

    Once again, I am posting to advise that I STILL have note been able to correct this problem. My AOL email will ONLY work using AOL software on my MacBook. I cannot get to AOL through AOL.com using a browser on my MPB. I cannot get AOL mail on my iPhone 3GS, or on my iPad using the Mail.app.

    The only thing I recall is resetting my AOL password on AOL software back in early August. Since then I have received on both the iPhone and iPad: the "username or password on AOL is incorrect" message or "cannot connect to imap.aol.com."

    I've deleted AOL on the phone and recreated it. I've restarted and reset the phone. I've used a backup from June (before any problems).

    Any help would be VERY MUCH appreciated !!

    Just posting that it happening AGAIN today with AOL email. It is effecting both my iPhone 4 and my iPad
