Mac Pro 2019 AC power cable availability

I’m not sure if this is an issue or not, but I’ve been having intermittent problems turning on my 2019 Mac Pro, which are resolved by jiggling the power cord (maybe?). I’ve since reset PRAM and SMC and haven’t seen the issue return yet. This was after many, many power-ons as I was trying to find bad RAM (found it).

Regardless, I thought the safest thing to do would be to replace it with OEM AC power cord. Turns out this is easier said than done. This part cannot be found on the internet as far as I can see.

Granted (and can I get a witness here?), it’s impossible to search for something specific to the 2019 Mac Pro without being flooded with endless, irrelevant “MacBook Pro” results… this in spite of liberal use of quotation marks, etc. Internet search is pretty well broken in 2022, but it’s particularly broken in this specific instance. /rant

Apple rep said on a support call that this AC power cord is not swappable with other normal D-cords (of which I have literally a dozen), yet this cord, it seems, cannot be had outside of buying a second 2019 Mac Pro (ha no, Apple, it ain’t happening).

Anybody got anything on this part?

What looks different from a regular IEC C13/C14 D-shaped cord?

Regular IEC C13/C14 cords are commonly rated up to 10 Amps -- it is possible the Mac Pro 2019 draws a bit more, and requires a heavier cord, possibly with not-quite-identical connector.

Some older PowerMac G5 towers and Mac Pro models required a higher-rated cord, which also included a large rectangle around it to discourage you from using a different cord.

The 2019 MP:

  • Maximum continuous power:
    • 1280W at 108–125V or 220–240V
    • 1180W at 100–107V

So a 10A cord should suffice unless maybe you have a maxed-out MP. Many regular one are less than 10A based on the wire size imprinted on many of them that I have seen.

I just say a cord for the 2103 MP and it is rated for 10A and price is $45

Does you plug specify reting like in place on the 2013 plug?
