Items can’t be copied to “Desktop” because you don’t have permission to read them.

Hello! I have two macbook pros on my home network. Very simple.

From my 2021MBP I can access the 2016MBP on the network, no problem.

However when I try to copy files from the 2016 desktop TO the 2021 desktop I get this error...

Items can’t be copied to “Desktop” because you don’t have permission to read them.

When I do the reverse, I have no problem.

So I have attached the images for how I have file sharing set up on each.

Can anyone see where the permissions are not correct? Other ideas on how to resolve this?

You Need to Make Desktop Writable.

In your second screenshot:

  1. Select: File Sharing
  2. Select: Dektop
  3. Select: Keenan Glass
  4. Change: "Read Only" to "Read...Write"

Downloading & Privileges:

It wouldn't matter when you downloaded the files. Each would have its own user privilege already. So, verify if the files themselves are "Read & Write"

  1. Right-Click: on the file
  2. Select: Preferences
  3. Expand: Sharing & Permissions
  4. Verify: the Privilege is "Read & Write"
  5. If so, you are set from here.

Thanks for your generosity. And your time looking at this.

That is another profile I am not using.

However, I discovered that it's a Sharing and Permissions issue with some of the images in the folder (the one I was working on). When I add Administrators to the share list, then the images copy over just fine.

Maybe I downloaded these images prior to setting up the Sharing preferences properly. I dunno but now I know what to look for.
