Screen Mirroring

I am trying to mirror from my i phone 11to my i mac. When I click on the screen mirroring icon the name of my i mac should appear but all I get is a spinning wheel.

Phone and imac on same wifi.

Both just been updated to latest versions.

Both have been restarted and still just the spinning wheel.

I have never tried to use this function before

Any thoughts?

Your MacBook may not support AirPlay from iPhone.

Do you have one of these devices, if YES, then that is the answer. These devices do not support AirPlay in MacOS.

  • MacBook Pro 2017 and Earlier
  • MacBook Air 2017 and Earlier
  • Mac Mini 2019 and Earlier
  • iMac 2018 and Earlier

Thanks for all your input. I finally spoke to someone at Apple Help who knew what they were talking about and apparently my iMac model is one of the ones you originally mentioned that does not have airplay facility for mirroring.

I can do it via quicktime but it will not allow Fitness + to be streamed - which is all I wanted to do.

HDMI lead for the television it is then. Thanks again.

Okay, then try to open the settings on your Mac and find Sharing and set to allow AirPlay for either Everyone or Anyone on the same network.
