Hi,

until now there is no dedicated Apple subwoofer to pair with (stereo) HomePods. However, you can easily attach any subwoofer which has a Line-in connector and ideally a frequency control.

To get this working, you will need:

  • Airport Express 2.Gen (this has Airplay 2 support!)
  • A subwoofer cable (e.g. Y-cable)
  • A subwoofer with Line-In (ideally 2 for connecting the above mentioned Y-Cable), a frequency response control

and maybe an auto power-on function

  • Connect the Airport Express to your Internet router via LAN and set up your Airport express Airplay 2 function.
  • Connect the Airport Express at the AUX-in connector to your subwoofer Line-in using the Y-Cable
  • Set the frequency control to the lowest possible (e.g. 50 hz)
  • Set the subwoofer to auto power on mode

If done correctly, your subwoofer will show up in the Airplay menu.

Just play any music, select the HomePods and then add the subwoofer in the Airplay menu.

For me this works perfectly fine, no audio drops or sync issues.

that really is strange. too bad we couldn't ask Tim Cook. maybe he could shed some light on the subject. thanks for the response. one last thing, I use the homepod stereo speakers with my apple 4k tv and my apple music and the sound is good. there is some bass in there but its almost like they are teasing us with it. thanks again
