Apple TV (1st generation, 2007) never supported AirPlay.
If your Apple TV is black and 3.9" (9.9 cm) wide, then it is at least 2nd generation.
Apple TV 4K (1st generation, 2017) [5th series] should support AirPlay and AirPlay 2.
