Scratchy Sound Output

Running Monterey on a mid-2015 MacBook. All of a sudden the sound is unpleasantly scratchy and reverberative. Yuck. Does anyone have this problem? Can anyone tell me how to fix it?

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 12.0

Hello Dana_loves_dogs,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand that you're hearing distorted sound from your Mac speakers.

To confirm, are there any external sound speakers or accessories connected to your Mac? If so, please disconnect them, and test again to help us isolate a bit more.

Also, please complete the steps here: If the internal speakers on your Mac aren't working along with resetting your Mac NVRAM, as this stores information related to sound: Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac

We look forward to hearing the results.

Regards.
