How do I turn off the two-step verification on iphone 13?

On a brand new iPhone 13 Mini, I must have inadvertently turned this on. Now the Settings gives me no option to turn it off.

2 factor authentication applies to your Apple ID, not a specific device.

If you just created your Apple ID, you can't disable it.

If you had an existing ID and enabled it when you set up your device, you have 14 days to turn it off again. Follow the instructions in the email you got from Apple when you enabled it.
