Apple ID password not accepted in App Store on iMac

I am able to sign in on my devices, and even my iMac with my Apple ID and password, but the App Store does not accept the password. I can access info on my phone and iPad in the App Store, but when I try to View Information in the App Store, it repeatedly takes me back to the sign in screen - Anyone else have this issue?

I have a partial solution after further chat with support:

On iPhone I was asked to sign out of 'Media and Purchases'.

When I signed in again, I had to ignore that I have an Apple ID and take the option to sign with a different ID (ie don't press 'Continue' button.

This then prompts to enter Apple ID and password (using the same ID). I was then able to 'View Account'.

Having done this on the phone, I went to iMac and signed out of App Store. Signing back in again led me to see account details. Works one on machine so far - other machines show the same problems. Hasn't solved the sign in loop on iTunes.....

Just off my call with Apple Support - they say the only way to solve the problem is to update OS.

In my case going from Mojave / High Sierra to Big Sur or Monterey.

Seems a bit of an extreme solution but will give it further thought - not all my devices can upgrade due to age, and not sure if they will still be able to interact in the same way after some of them upgrade...I read for example that iTunes is different in newer OS.

I was on Big Sur on the iMac and they encouraged me to move to Monterey. I did. I don't notice a huge difference and it did not solve the issue. I am convinced this is a bug in their App Store/iTunes software. My laptop is a new one with the M1 chip and was on Monterey anyway (I upgraded a while ago). I delayed going to Monterey on the iMac because I was concerned about how it would work. It took a while for it to completely integrate with all the things on the machine, and for about 24 hours Safari was painfully slow, to the point where some sites would not load. Now it is fine - and fast. But the issue of not being able to log in properly to the App Store remains. So they are wrong - updating the OS does not fix the issue.

I had a support call this morning and they agree it is their problem. They still wanted me to spend my time working through the fixes that I already have tried and that don’t work. But it is a known issue - it just hasn’t been publicly logged by a senior engineer - at least that is what I understood from the discussion I had this morning

I am experiencing similar problems on my iMac running macOS 11.6.4.

Attempting to access App Store Account Details using the "View Information" link brings up this dialog:

After entering the correct Apple ID, and entering the password in the subsequent password dialog, the Sign In dialog returns without action.

The same thing happens when trying to access my account using the Music App.

I am able to use my up-to-date iPad/iPhone to access account details.

I have restarted the computer/tried a Safe Boot/signed out/in on both applications/used iPhone Hot Spot without success.

Now there are three of us in this thread with the same issue and two of us have taken rather large chunks of time out of our lives to communicate with Apple. I was finally told yesterday that this is a known issue and I gather that nothing has been done about it yet. I am sure there will be more users reporting it too. Just to recap - the issue is that the sign in requiring the Apple ID password for View Information in the App Store as well as in iTunes is looping and never going through. It is impossible to gain access.

Hey there, and welcome to Apple Support Communities, bensrose!

From our understanding, you’re unable to access the App Store. We can certainly understand your concern and can help provide some insight.

Just to confirm, is this happening on all your devices or just certain ones? Do you receive an error message when logging in?

We look forward to hearing from you.

This is definitely an apple problem, not one with your devices. If you wouldn’t mind reporting it to them perhaps they will start to take it more seriously. It is clear that the steps they have offered - including updating to Monterey - are not the answer. Creating a new admin user does not work either. Thanks for adding to this post.

This is specific to the iMac I bought in mid 2020. I can get into the App Store, and it looks like I am signed in. However, when I click on View Information, it asks for my Apple ID password. When I put it it, a "loading" star starts turning, then a couple of seconds later I am back at the screen with my id asking for my password again. This repeats itself if I try a second time, so there is no way for me to access View Information in the App Store on my iMac.
