Blind users and Face ID on restart

I am working with my friend who is the owner of an iPhone 13 Pro Max. He is blind. We cannot get the FACE ID to work when we restart the phone or after several hours on not using the phone, like every morning. All settings to UNLOCK the phone using FACE ID are on. All day it works and then the next morning, he needs to put in a passcode. ARGH. Apple should have a fix since thousands of blind people use Apple phones precisely because it's so much better than others.

Hello BLIND_USER_FACE_ID_ON_RESTART,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities. We understand that you are helping a friend with Face ID.

For security reasons, there are a few scenarios where a password is needed before you can resume using Face ID. You can find a list of scenarios in the "If you need to enter your passcode" section of this support article: If Face ID isn't working on your iPhone or iPad Pro - Apple Support

The iPhone does have many helpful accessibility features for vision: Accessibility - Vision - Apple

Whenever the iPhone is turned off, then Face ID is temporarily disabled until you enter the passcode again. It will also do that if you have not used the Face ID over a 24 hour period. This is a security feature. While there are ways to compensate for your friend's vision issue with VoiceOver, the other poster provided a link to contact the Accessibility group from Apple directly so they can assist your friend with options to deal with their disability. That is your best thing to do at this point. They can explain what options to activate on the phone, as well as how to use them.

hello bbesspete,

thank you very much for your prompt reply. so, yes, the phone is working normally and requires a passcode every morning. actually that really sucks for my friend. he could get around the restarting issue by never turning it off but he does still need sleep so there will be 4 hour slots when the Face ID hasn't been used every day. i appreciate your help but Apple didn't conside the effect on this silly 4 hour space in between using the Face ID on blind people. so we're stuck with an iPhone 13 Pro Max that doesn't really help him when his vision is completely gone in the coming months.

thank you.
