Duration of handwriting staying on screen on iPhone 8 plus

Hi. The characters I write on the handwriting screen on iPhone 8 Plus disappear too quickly! How can I prevent it from disappearing after writing or disappearing so quickly! I write Chinese characters with my finger on the handwriting screen to look up Chinese words in the app dictionary, but some characters are really complex, and they disappear from the screen before I could see how to finish writing them! This only happens with my newly acquired refurbished iPhone 8 Plus on iOS 15; it doesn’t happen with my iPhone 6 or first generation iPad Air.

It has nothing to do with any third party apps or any apps. The same problem exists when I try to compose an email using handwriting as a test. That is, on my iPhone 6 and 1st gen iPad Air, when I write on the screen with my finger using handwriting, the word stays on the screen until I erase it. But on my iPhone 8 Plus, with iOS 15, it disappears shortly after I remove my finger from writing!
