AirPods Pro won't charge

I have the AirPods Pro and they will not charge. My iPhone is 12 Pro Max and the software is up to date. My original ones wouldn't charge either. The ones I have now are a replacement pair. I have the AirPods in the case and the lid is closed. I have it plugged in currently and the light on the case will turn amber but after a minute or so the light goes off. I checked the charging widget on iPhone and at first like I mentioned it will show that the AirPods are charging, but then the widget of the charging % goes blank. Also, there is no light on the AirPods case. How do I know if the Pods and case are charging? I have tried everything and as I mentioned, the ones I have now are brand new.
