My wife virtually never reboots her 12 Mini. We have been advised by Apple support to reboot it weekly or so. Friends with the "other" phone tell me that their Androids can be set to reboot automatically at a pre-ser interval. Can this be done with the iPhone?

No, it cannot. You could always setup a reminder on the phone and set it to repeat to remind her. While I don't do my weekly, it can be every couple of weeks if you want, or even once a month. It really isn't that important unless you are experiencing problems.
